Phoenix Hosts Celebrate Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary

Howard and Dorothy Bruce recently celebrated their Golden Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. Howard and Dorothy met at a skating rink; Howard says they were not good skaters, so they held hands to keep from falling. (Dorothy, says that she "fell for him" literally!) That started their love affair that has been going on now for over fifty years. They married June 21, 1947 in Dallas, Oregon. They were blessed with three beautiful children Linda, Darlene and Bill. The family came into the W.C.G. In Salem, Oregon in the fall of 1964. Howard and Dorothy attended their first Feast of Tabernacles in Squaw Valley, California in 1965 and were baptized by Carlton Smith in 1966. All three of their children were also later baptized into God's Church. Howard graduated from Spokesman Club and later became president of the Graduate's Club in Salem. They attended the 1979 Feast with the C.G.I. At Squaw Valley and are presently Hosts of the C.G.I. Church group in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Anniversary party was celebrated at the beautiful home of Scott and granddaughter Jamie Fishburn of Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Linda King, daughter of the Bruces, did a beautiful job of organizing the celebration party. Daughters and granddaughters alike helped with the preparations. Husband Charlie King barbecued the steaks and asked an inspiring blessing over a delicious dinner, mentioning the example Howard and Dorothy had set in their marriage. The Anniversary celebration beginning on the Sabbath made it even more special. It was a festive occasion attended by many friends and relatives, including great grand children. Everywhere I looked I saw strikingly pretty "'Bruce" women and all of these attractive offspring resembled Dorothy! The highlight of the evening was at the cutting of the Anniversary cake. Instead of stuffing the cake into his sweetheart's face as lesser men would have done, Howard tenderly placed the cake in her mouth, then lovingly took her into his arms, gently swayed her back and softly kissed her just like they used to do in all of those romantic movies! Clark Gable would have been proud of you Howard! You are a true lover and role model for us all!
Jeanette and l feel honored to have been invited to this celebration of our dear friends. It is an evening we will always fondly remember. Thank you Howard and Dorothy for allowing us to share a little of your joy. May God's blessing continue to shine upon your marriage. You are a wonderful couple! Phill and Jeanette Dunagan
